I have some doubts regarding valve models such as the ball valve Q41F-16C and the butterfly valve D73X-16C. After reviewing the JB/T308 standard for naming valve models, I understand that the letter F denotes fluoroplastic as the sealing material, while X denotes rubber. It’s easy to understand that the sealing material for wafer-type butterfly valves is rubber, as I’ve seen these valves in person. However, for flanged ball valves, the sealing material should be metal, since the flange itself is made of metal. Could the model Q41F-16C be incorrect? After all, F refers to fluoroplastic – how could the sealing surface of a flange be made of fluoroplastic?
It is a valve seat sealing material, not a flange seal
In other words, the code for valve sealing materials specified in JB/T308 does not refer to the sealing surfaces at the connections; it refers to the sealing materials inside the valve

It is recommended to disassemble the ball valve to take a look; inside, there is a seal made of that white plastic ring
The digit corresponding to the sealing material for all numbers refers to the sealing material inside the valve, and not the material at the connection point with the pipeline

The image above shows what’s specified in the standards: this character indicates the material of the sealing surface or lining. It probably doesn’t represent the sealing material inside the valve, as you mentioned
F refers to the material code for the valve seat sealing surface, not the material code for the seal used on the flange sealing surface. Additionally, JB/T 308 has been revoked; the new standard is GB/T 32808-2016, \"Method for specifying the models of valves.\" Detailed information can be found in this standard
