If it is forged from pipe material, why isn’t the material specification A333 Gr.6 indicated? Generally, low-temperature steel used for forgings is A350 LF2; the description of this reducer is a bit confusing.
The description is fine; MSS SP-95 (Swage(d) Nipples and Bull Plugs) is not a forging standard – it can be simply understood as a dimension standard. It is recommended to consult the original standard text. Therefore, either tubing or forgings can be used; it is only necessary for them to correspond to the manufacturing method, and vice versa. For example, in the case of low-temperature carbon steel, if the reducer uses pipe material A420 WPL6, the manufacturing method should be SMLS. If forged A350 LF2 is used, the manufacturing method shall be Forge. Generally speaking, domestic manufacturers prefer to use forged components for reducer sections, while foreign manufacturers prefer to use tubular materials. It’s similar to the 8-character blind plate: in China it is generally forged, while abroad sheets of metal are preferred. It is estimated that the author’s previous projects mostly used forged materials, and they found it unreasonable when tubes were used; in fact, both are acceptable.
