This move provides solid technical support for ensuring the safety of oil and gas pipeline transportation as well as energy security. It is understood that this approach utilizes neutron diffraction technology to accurately determine the distribution of residual stresses within ring welds. By conducting tests, the optimal welding parameters are identified, ensuring that the residual stresses in different areas remain consistent during pipeline welding. This provides critical experimental data for accurately assessing the reliability of ring welds and optimizing welding processes. This work introduced entirely new testing techniques to the field of pipeline research, and it also provided a highly valuable application example for the study of scientific issues in the oil and gas pipeline sector, both domestically and internationally, using neutron diffraction testing techniques. The China Spallation Neutron Source is a powerful research platform for various disciplines such as materials science, physics, chemistry and chemical engineering, life sciences, resources and environment, as well as new energy. It is also the fourth pulsed spallation neutron source in the world. Neutron diffraction technology at the China Spallation Neutron Source possesses significant advantages as an important method for non-destructive testing of residual stresses. It has a greater penetration depth, reaching several dozen millimeters ; It has high spatial resolution, enabling accurate characterization of the stress gradient within the sample as well as three-dimensional stress measurement ; During testing, simulated loading of the preparation and service environments can be applied to obtain in-situ the multi-scale residual stress distribution patterns of the specimens. To complete this task, the team led by Li Xiaohu from the Material Neutron Diffraction Instrument at China’s Spallation Neutron Source project worked closely with the project team from the **Pipeline Research Institute, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of the data and thus facilitating the smooth progress of the testing work.
