World’s first group standard for ultra-corrosion-resistant double-sided composite stainless steel welded pipes passes preliminary review 2025-08-27 On August 23, the world’s first standard for \"Ultra-corrosion-resistant double-sided composite stainless steel welded pipes\", proposed and developed by the Shanghai Steel Pipe Industry Association, passed its preliminary review. The review panel, composed of expert reviewers, conducted a thorough evaluation of aspects such as the scope of the draft standard, normative reference documents, terms and definitions, as well as classification and codes. They unanimously agreed that the preliminary version of the standard had a reasonable structure and comprehensive content, and thus an approved draft was prepared for submission to the Shanghai Steel Pipe Industry Association for approval. Once adopted, this standard will play a significant role in improving the standard system in the field of ultra-corrosion-resistant double-sided composite stainless steel welded pipes, as well as promoting the high-quality development of the pipe industry. In response, Lu Zhikui, deputy secretary-general of the Shanghai Steel Pipe Industry Association, noted that this is the world’s first group standard for ultra-corrosion-resistant double-sided composite stainless steel welded pipes, reflecting the high standard of Chinese manufacturing. The draft group standard for \"Ultra-corrosion-resistant double-sided composite stainless steel welded pipes\" under review was prepared by Zhejiang Jiurun Environmental Technology Co., Ltd., a member enterprise of the Shanghai Steel Pipe Industry Association located in the Longyou Economic Development Zone. Shen Genrong gave high praise to this draft standard, stating that it was well-structured and contained many innovative features. He said that the adoption of these standards will provide solid support for the promotion and use of ultra-corrosion-resistant double-sided composite stainless steel welded pipe products, as well as for the high-quality development of the steel pipe industry. Currently, single-coating anti-corrosion treatment is commonly used for circulating water pipelines, but due to limitations in existing leak detection methods and construction techniques, it is difficult to achieve 100% leak-free performance. Even if 99% of the coating is intact, the 1% of defective areas still pose a very high risk of corrosion-induced perforation. To address these pain points in this industry, Zhejiang Jiurun Environmental Technology Co., Ltd., together with research, production, and educational institutions such as Shanghai Haishengtuo New Materials Technology Co., Ltd., utilized a R&D platform organized by the Shanghai Steel Pipe Industry Association. After 8 years of dedicated research and development, they successfully created ultra-corrosion-resistant double-sided composite stainless steel welded pipes featuring S31254 super stainless steel as the coating layer and DH36 high-grade shipbuilding steel as the base layer. Three product and technical standards were established, thereby completing the entire industrial chain for this product.
S31254 super austenitic stainless steel features a face-centered cubic crystal structure, offering excellent toughness and ductility. It has passed strict international standard tests such as salt spray tests and intergranular corrosion tests.
