The CYW-610N internal cold bending machine for pipes, independently developed by Huayou Gongjian Company, has completed the bending of 20 insulated steel pipes in total. This achievement marks a technological breakthrough in China’s field of construction equipment for pipelines with insulation layers and heat tracing tubes, providing technical support for the development of energy corridors under the Belt and Road Initiative. The East African Crude Oil Export Pipeline is an important project under the energy cooperation framework of the Belt and Road Initiative. With a total length of 1,443 kilometers, it is the longest electrically heated crude oil pipeline in the world, connecting the oil fields in Uganda to the port of Tanga in Tanzania. It is operated by the French company Total, with various parties including China National Offshore Oil Corporation participating in its equity structure. The project passes through ecologically sensitive and topographically complex areas such as the Serengeti Plain, and the rainy season in the Tanzanian section accounts for over 40% of the year. Furthermore, the pipeline requires insulation coating and heating pipes, and the use of conventional bending equipment can easily lead to damage to the insulation layer or deformation of the heating pipes. Previously, the technology for such equipment was under foreign monopoly for a long time, limiting control over construction efforts.
