Deep within the pit lies a super-large-diameter ductile iron pipe with a diameter of 2.8 meters and a weight of 13 tons. This is the first time such a pipe has been used in a water transportation project worldwide, marking a shift in China’s capabilities in the manufacturing and application of super-large-diameter ductile iron pipes from following others to taking the lead. It represents a true example of how innovative productivity drives the development of water infrastructure. Since January 12, 2026, the installation of the DN2800 pipelines for Phase 2, Lot 2 has been progressing in an orderly manner. According to the person in charge of the project team, the diameter of the DN2800 pipes is 1.8 meters larger than that of the DN1000 pipes commonly used in the past, yet their water transport capacity has increased by nearly 20 times, which perfectly meets the requirements of the Jiulong River water transfer project for long-distance and high-volume water transfer. Moreover, the DN2800 pipes offer advantages such as corrosion resistance, excellent sealing performance, short construction time, and low operation and maintenance costs. They address the key issues associated with traditional large-diameter water transmission systems, namely long construction periods, high pressure losses, and high maintenance costs, thereby providing a reliable guarantee for the safe transportation of water over long distances. Furthermore, pipeline installation requires no on-site welding or additional anti-corrosion measures, resulting in very high installation efficiency. Apart from the pipes themselves, the \"new technology of large-diameter double-top pipe installation over long distances in confined spaces along curves\" used in this project has won the first prize in the Fujian Province Water Resources Science and Technology Award. At the same time, the project also adopted geological advance prediction technology to cope with complex geological conditions. Although this section is located at the end of the project, it has the fastest progress, with over 90% completed so far. The Jiulongjiang Water Transfer Project is a key project under the **14th Five-Year Plan for Water Security**, with a total investment of 5.112 billion yuan and a length of nearly 125 kilometers. To date, Phase 1, Bid Section 5 has been the first to have water supply restored, with a total of over 90 million tons of water supplied to large industrial projects such as Liansheng Paper Industry ; 60% of the second-phase investment has been completed, establishing a water transmission pipeline spanning nearly 70 kilometers.
