What is the evaporation crystallization process in soda ash production?
All solutes have a solubility limit in a solution. As the water in the solution continues to evaporate, the solute reaches a certain degree of supersaturation at which point it precipitates as crystals – this is the principle behind evaporation crystallization.
1. There are various processes for producing soda ash, including the ammonia-soda method, the combined soda method, and the natural soda production method. 2. Under normal circumstances, there are two processes in which evaporation crystallization may be used: the double-alkali process and the natural alkali process. 3. The crystallization process in the double-alkali method mainly involves the thermal crystallization of ammonium chloride; that is, after soda ash is produced, the mother liquor is not subjected to cold crystallization anymore, but instead evaporation is used to saturate the solution with ammonium chloride, thereby enabling crystallization to occur. At present, there are no large-scale production facilities. It seems that the Dalian Alkali Research Institute developed this \"thermal combined alkali\" process many years ago, but I believe its energy consumption is higher than that of the cold combined alkali method; however, the widespread adoption of this process has been hindered by the severe corrosion caused by chloride ions at high temperatures. 4. The natural alkali crystallization process involves dissolving and purifying the water from the Maehara natural alkali ore, followed by purifying the resulting solution to induce crystallization; the main methods include the monohydrate alkali method and the sesquialkali method. The enterprise with the largest production scale is located in the Nanyang area of Henan; its current capacity is estimated to be around 1.3–1.6 million tons per year, with three production lines. It has a competitive advantage due to lower costs and energy consumption, but as energy prices rise and resources become scarcer, this advantage will diminish over time. Furthermore, this company is also the largest producer of baking soda in our country. 5. The production of soda ash using the evaporation crystallization method abroad mainly takes place in the United States. It is the largest producer of natural soda in the world; followed by Turkey, which also uses the evaporation-crystallization method on a large scale. One production line, but with considerable capacity. Baking soda is also paid for. 6. If you don’t have natron, it is meaningless to produce soda ash by the crystallization method. This is called raw materials determining the process. Although its production cost is low, this is only possible if there are available alkali resources. In the last century, Boyuan Group took control of all of China’s natural soda resources, and today, over 90% of the country’s natural soda resources are in the hands of Boyuan Group. Therefore, this method seems to have little significance for ordinary alkali plants.
