It could also be caused by a high iron ion content in the cathode system, corrosion of the materials in the alkali circulation system, or by the pure water used as a diluent for the cathode solution. As iron deposits on the cathode, its amount gradually increases; however, this situation can be determined by examining the outlet hoses and main pipes. It’s difficult to determine the specific cause. The ion exchange membrane may have pinholes, and a high chloride content; inadequate drainage during shutdown or proper replacement during startup can also lead to this issue
