Solving the vinyl chloride production process?
A method in which ethylene undergoes chlorination to produce dichloroethane, which is then cracked to yield vinyl chloride; it is also known as the ethylene method. This method involves more steps and has a higher cost. One method is the direct formation of chloroacetylene through the addition of hydrogen chloride to acetylene, also known as the calcium carbide method or acetylene method. This method has a simple process, but mercury-containing catalysts are generally used.
