On one cell, electrodes from the same manufacturer use two different types of membranes; the operating times for these membranes differ by two months. Blackening of the membrane is generally caused by the peeling off of the cathodic coating, which leads to nickel contamination of the membrane. This indicates that the coating adhesion of some electrodes is poor.
