Flue gas from thermal power plants (with a carbon dioxide content of around 12%) is reacted with caustic soda to produce sodium carbonate solution, which is used to remove calcium ions from the brine used in chlor-alkali production; Does anyone here have a similar device? I wonder how it runs? Which parameters need to be controlled for sodium carbonate solutions?
Our unit has used it; it involves using caustic soda produced via diaphragm cells to react with flue gas, which allows for control over the formation of sodium carbonate. It is also added to the brine for its purification. However, if only ion-exchange membrane caustic soda is available, the economic viability may not be guaranteed. In any case, we have never used ion-exchange membrane caustic soda for this purpose. It turns out that the product is still black; haha, it’s just a simple packed tower in which air from a fan is blown through the gas stream in the weak alkali solution.
Theoretically, it makes sense, but a comprehensive consideration is needed from the perspectives of investment, economics, product quality, and quantity; looking at it simply in terms of cost, it is definitely not cost-effective.
It’s a good idea. How about this: the poster can allocate some research funding. I’m nearing retirement anyway, so I might as well conduct research on the idea you mentioned. If it yields results, they’ll be yours; if not, consider it a form of venture investment on your part. :lol
