The total amount of calcium and magnesium in the secondary saline should generally be kept below 20 ppb; conventional colorimetric methods reach their limits in this case, and titration methods are not applicable either. The only reliable approach is to use special colorimetric techniques for online measurement. Such special methods involve eliminating the influence of large amounts of sodium chloride in the sample, selecting appropriate chromogens, using colorimetric cells with larger path lengths, and maintaining an appropriate reaction temperature. Wan Tong in Switzerland and Applitek in Belgium have such analyzers; they are very expensive and require careful operation and maintenance. With this special analysis system, it is preferable to establish direct communication with the manufacturer and obtain the equipment as a complete set directly from them. If the equipment is purchased through an agent, it is very likely that the cost will be higher, while support, service, and even proper operation of the equipment may suffer issues.
