Our company is a chlor-alkali enterprise with numerous containers; we conduct a safety analysis of these open containers once a month. We climb onto the tops of the tanks and use 100ml syringes to collect gas samples from the breathing ports, which are then sent to the laboratory for hydrogen content analysis. While eliminating safety hazards, it has created new ones: there is a risk associated with climbing. Some ladders are too close to the tank, with the shortest distance being as little as two centimeters – just enough for fingers to pass through, but not enough for feet to provide proper support. At the moment, I have thought of two solutions: 1. Install online monitoring equipment at the breathing outlet ; 2. Fix one end of the long latex tube at the breathing opening, and lead the other end to the ground. Could everyone help analyze which option is better, or are there any other methods?
Right, conduct a hydrogen analysis on the open container? Online monitoring is certainly good – it saves time and effort, but it’s expensive ; Using a latex tube to draw it down is also an option; when taking the sample, draw for a longer period of time to ensure that the sample consists of the gas inside the tank. Hydrogen is much less dense than air; will it accumulate in an open container? I wonder if your sampling analyses showed any cases of exceeding the limits?
