Recently, Indian company GHCL Limited stated in a statement that it plans to invest 40 billion Indian rupees to build a new soda ash plant with an annual production capacity of 500,000 tons in Mandvi, in the Kutch region of western Gujarat. Jalan, the general manager of GHCL, said that the new capacity will help India meet the growing demand in the solar and electric vehicle industries. Construction of the new facility has begun, and it is set to go into production around 2025 or 2026. By 2030, the production capacity of this new facility will double again, reaching 1 million tons per year. The additional capacity will not only help meet India’s domestic demand but will also be used for exports. India’s current demand for soda ash is 4.3 million tons per year, with imported soda ash accounting for 20% of this demand. India’s total soda ash production is currently around 3.6 million tons per year.
