In our sulfuric acid plant, the dry absorption acid concentration meters have not been performing well over the past few years; their readings are often inaccurate. I have also tried several different manufacturers, such as DDK, Yokogawa, Chuanyu, and others. But none of them are ideal, especially the first and second inhalations. I’d like to ask if anyone has any useful tips; please share your experiences!
With a non-contact ring conductivity meter, it can be used for 20 years without problems as long as it is properly maintained.
What the original poster mentioned are all instruments based on conductivity. The main issues relate to two points: ① Fresh sulfuric acid is usually of 98% concentration; as it absorbs moisture, its concentration decreases, and once it drops to a certain level, it is discharged as waste acid. Since the conductivity measurement shows a turning point at a sulfuric acid concentration of around 92%, it is definitely impossible to conduct monitoring across that range. ②The measurement of sulfuric acid concentration using conductivity establishes a two-dimensional relationship between conductivity and concentration; if moisture is absorbed along with large amounts of process impurities, the original curve relationship will deviate significantly, resulting in reduced accuracy.
For the absorption tower, conductivity is suitable; for the drying tower, a refractometer is more effective
