Turkey bans sulfur exports

The Turkish Ministry of Agriculture announced recently that sulfur exports will be banned starting April 7, with exceptions for goods that have already passed customs approval. The Turkish government approved an export ban on April 6, and it will take effect in the second and third quarters of 2026. The Turkish Ministry of Agriculture stated that the reason for imposing an export ban was the conflicts in the Middle East, which caused sulfur prices to rise by 35% to 40%, while there was also a shortage in domestic supply. Previously, Turkish refiner Tupras would regularly publish tenders for exporting 8,000 tons of sulfur to the Mediterranean market on a monthly basis. According to relevant data, Turkey will export approximately 226,500 tons of sulfur in 2025, the majority of which will be exported to Egypt, Tanzania (the Copper Belt region), Greece, and Lebanon.
