Sulfuric acid can be distilled directly; when heated, it decomposes into SO3. Even if a portion of it decomposes and the amount of sulfuric acid decreases, it is still possible to obtain 98% pure sulfuric acid through distillation. The advantage of reducing pressure is that it prevents the sulfuric acid from decomposing, thereby increasing the yield – there’s just a difference in terms of yield
