This is another major breakthrough by Wengfu in its technology for extracting iodine from phosphate rock. As of April 9, 2014, the world’s first pilot-scale unit for gas-phase iodine recovery developed by Wengfu Chemical Company had been operating steadily for 50 days in a row. This represents another major breakthrough by Wengfu in the field of iodine extraction from phosphate ore, following the success of its liquid-phase iodine recovery technology. The gas-phase iodine recovery technology not only helps advance Wengfu’s efforts to manage iodine-related issues and improve the overall efficiency of resource utilization, but it also helps alleviate the shortage of iodine resources in China. This unit is an expanded version of a smaller pilot-scale device for gas-phase iodine recovery that was developed independently by Wengfu. According to analysis and calculations, about 40% of the iodine resources from the processing of phosphate rock end up in the gas phase; currently, an economic analysis and evaluation of the industrial production technology are being carried out. To date, this pilot-scale vapor iodine production facility has produced 4 kilograms of iodine. 　　This new technology will not only accelerate the progress of gas-phase treatment at Wengfu and improve the overall utilization rate of resources, but it will also provide a technical package to support Wengfu’s projects in Saudi Arabia, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of Wengfu’s international technical services division.
