A truck crane is the most commonly used lifting tool at installation or maintenance sites. Generally, the requirement for using cranes is to place sleepers under their legs during lifting operations. However, in practice, crane operators often fail to use such sleepers when they see a solid concrete surface on the ground. Does anyone know if there are any standard specifications that address this?

There is no mandatory requirement; it is mainly determined by the load-bearing capacity of the ground. If the ground is a concrete slab, legs can be used directly, but if it is ordinary concrete mortar that has hardened, it is likely not possible to use legs.
This is not good; without standards, relying solely on experience can lead to mistakes in judgment. I’ve seen several cases where cranes overturned or caused damage to the ground at the site, and it was all due to the legs being placed directly on the ground. Just a few days ago, a crane placed its legs directly on a concrete surface, and as a result the surface, which was over 300 millimeters thick, cracked under the pressure. If sleepers had been used to increase the area bearing the weight, the surface would not have been damaged
For the types of work we do here, sleepers have to be used, as it’s not certain whether the ground beneath is solid. Using sleepers increases the area in contact with the load, thereby reducing pressure; this helps prevent loss of balance and overturning due to uneven ground during the work
I think sleepers must be added. Although there are no explicit requirements or specific standards set out in national regulations, during lifting operations, no one knows what the condition of the road surface beneath the crane is like. Moreover, the length and angle of the crane’s boom change constantly during lifting, and the pressure values resulting from each different angle and length vary as well. If sleepers can reduce the likelihood of accidents, then why not use them?
