During the operation of ultra-pure water equipment, the operating conditions such as pressure, temperature, system recovery rate, and feedwater concentration may change, which can lead to variations in the flow rate and quality of the produced water. To effectively evaluate the performance of ultra-pure water equipment, it is necessary to compare the data on flow rate and quality under identical conditions. Since it is not always possible to obtain such data under the same conditions, it is essential to standardize the performance data of the reverse osmosis membranes under actual operating conditions to enable an accurate assessment of their performance. Among these, standardization includes the standardization of product water flow rate and the standardization of salt permeability. If the operating conditions of the system are the same as those at its initial operation, the flow rate that can theoretically be achieved now is called the standardized flow rate. Well, the desalination rate that can be achieved theoretically at present is called the standardized desalination rate. Therefore, the standardized reference point is based on the operational data at the time of initial operation (when the system is operating stably or after 24 hours), or on the standard parameters provided by the manufacturer of the ultra-pure water equipment. At that stage, the reverse osmosis membranes in such equipment are essentially free from any contamination. To determine whether there is contamination in the reverse osmosis system and whether cleaning is necessary, it is necessary to refer to the data from the time of initial operation; hence, this data is extremely important and must be recorded.
