Recently, Xi’an Petrochemical Company, which was established in 1967 and used to be one of the **five major production sites for high-grade road asphalt, was demolished. The image shows the complete demolition of the regeneration system and its associated framework in the catalytic cracking unit. The regeneration system is the heaviest single unit among the equipment to be removed by Xi’an Petrochemical Company; it is 39.98 meters tall, and together with its auxiliary structures it weighs 1,152 tons. It consists of a coaxial settler, a regenerator, an external heat exchanger, a three-stage cyclone separator, and a four-stage cyclone separator. The complete demolition and controlled lowering of such a heavy entire device is the first of its kind in the country.
The old must go if the new is to come – should it be demolished and rebuilt or will the project come to an end?
It’s quite rare to see such a large structure being demolished through a complete blasting approach. I thought it was just welder and crane work.
