When lifting columns using the rotation method, it is advisable to arrange the columns so that their footings are close to the foundation; moreover, the binding points of the columns, as well as the centers of the column footings and the foundation, should all lie on an arc with the same radius from the crane. The rotary method for lifting columns results in low vibration and high production efficiency, but it requires high mobility from the crane. This method is suitable when using crawler cranes, truck cranes, and tire cranes. When lifting a column using the sliding method, the crane raises only the hook; the boom does not rotate. As the hook rises, the top of the column rises as well, and the base of the column slides upward along with it. Once the column is upright, it is lifted off the ground and rotated above the foundation cup, after which it is inserted into the cup. Lifting columns using the sliding method causes significant vibration, but only one action – lifting the hook – is required during the lifting process. This method is often used when lifting columns with a single-leg jack or a A-frame jack ; Additionally, for some long and heavy columns, this method is also commonly used to facilitate construction, layout, and lifting.
