The steel grid structure of the circular material storage yard in Phase I, Bid 2 of the public utility island project at the Lianyungang Petrochemical Industry Base, which was under the general contracting of Tianchen Company, has been successfully completed. According to Tianchen Company’s report from May 2025, this completion marks the finished construction of the main structure of this single unit – the one with the greatest construction difficulties, highest safety risks, and longest construction period within the coal storage and transportation system. This circular storage yard has a diameter of 100 meters and a height of 60 meters, with a maximum coal storage capacity of 100,000 tons. It is the largest coal storage structure of its kind on the utility island of the Lianyungang petrochemical industry base. It also represents the first time that Tianchen Company has undertaken an EPC project for constructing such a storage yard as part of a storage and transportation system. The main structure of the material yard adopts a design based on a raft foundation, concrete ring walls, a steel reticulated shell, and single-layer profiled steel sheets; the grid structure is constructed using a modular lifting method. Adopting a bottom-up, outward-to-inward circular installation method significantly shortened the construction period for this type of stockyard. The first phase of the utility island in the Lianyungang petrochemical industry base involves the construction of 3 sets of 2,000 t/d Shenning furnaces, which supply materials such as hydrogen and syngas to the industry base as well as the IGCC power generation units.
The Shenning furnace was chosen, and the coal is likely to be Ningxia coal as well.
