The desalination project in Jafurah, Saudi Arabia, undertaken by China Power Construction, successfully produced water for the first time. On October 21st, local time, as the first batch of clean treated water flowed steadily from the pipelines, the desalination project in Jafurah carried out by China Power Construction achieved its first output of water. To ensure the project achieves its goal of producing water for the first time, PowerChina coordinated the key stages such as construction organization, equipment installation, and system commissioning. Faced with multiple challenges such as high temperatures, sandstorms, a tight construction schedule, and numerous concurrent tasks, all personnel involved in the project worked together in unity, organized their efforts scientifically, and strictly adhered to the three key control objectives of safety, quality, and progress. The achievement of this important milestone fully verifies the overall compatibility and operational stability of the system’s equipment, marking a substantial breakthrough in the operation of the main process system. The Saudi Jafurah desalination project is one of the infrastructure projects that Aramco has invested heavily in within the unconventional gas field areas of eastern Saudi Arabia. The project utilizes the world’s advanced reverse osmosis (RO) technology, with a designed daily water production capacity of 80,000 cubic meters. Upon completion, the project will provide a stable and reliable supply of industrial fresh water for the Jafurah gas field, holding significant strategic importance for ensuring the operation of Saudi Arabia’s energy industry chain and promoting energy cooperation between China and Saudi Arabia. Through years of hard work, China Power Construction has managed to catch up quickly in the field of international seawater desalination project EPC, and has become one of the largest seawater desalination construction companies in the world.
