Whether hazardous chemicals are safe is a matter of concern for the general public. Accidents involving hazardous chemicals occur almost every year, with the majority of these occurring during storage and transportation. Storage of such chemicals poses significant challenges, as it’s like having a time bomb that could threaten lives at any moment. Without proper management, explosions can occur at any time, posing a serious threat to people’s property and lives. My knowledge is limited, so I’ll give you a brief overview of some aspects of daily management. Hazardous chemicals companies vary in terms of scale, management level, the nature of the hazardous chemicals they handle, technical capabilities, process conditions, working environment, and the quality of their personnel. The use and management of hazardous chemicals at the workplace also take many different forms. Common shortcomings and gaps in the management of hazardous chemicals at these sites are precisely the focus of safety inspections and supervision. 1. In some companies, hazardous chemicals are not stored properly; they are placed in areas with high temperatures, and such high temperatures can cause these chemicals to evaporate, leading easily to fires and explosions. Some enterprises use hazardous chemicals such as n-hexane and benzene in the production process, posing serious occupational hazards. 2. Many companies have assigned numerical codes to hazardous chemicals to make them easier to refer to, but employees are not aware of the specific hazards associated with those codes; therefore, there is a need to strengthen awareness regarding hazardous chemicals. 3 The safety management measures are not properly implemented, and the amount stored on site exceeds the planned level. 4. Safety operating procedures are based on the experience and lessons learned from accidents; however, in production, there are many accidents that occur as a result of failing to follow these procedures and violating objective laws and common sense. For example, using organic solvents to scrub floors can cause fire accidents. 5. The air quality in the workshop is extremely poor, with a pungent smell. The ventilation equipment on site was not turned on because the employees were afraid of the hassle. Enterprise management is inadequate; although there are safety protection facilities, they do not function effectively. 6. The personal protective equipment used by some enterprises does not meet the protection requirements. For example, use gauze masks instead of activated carbon masks. At the work site, there is also the issue of protective equipment not being utilized fully. 7. Some safety reminders and warning signs at hazardous chemical handling sites are incomplete. 8. Some enterprises don’t even have emergency response plans; many work sites fail to equip themselves with eyewash stations, shower systems, emergency medications, etc. as required. Employees also lack knowledge regarding emergency rescue and occupational health protection. 9. The occupational health protection facilities do not meet the requirements, leading to cases of occupational poisoning among certain groups of workers. 10. Some companies wait until a certain amount of waste has accumulated before disposing of it, which may lead to chemical reactions and accidents.
