Dear teachers, what are the functions of the various components in mixed refrigerants and how do they affect the current in the refrigerant compressor? I would appreciate your guidance
Well... the mixed refrigerants from different process packages are also somewhat different, right? Let’s mention what kinds of refrigerants are available
Nitrogen, methane, ethylene, propane, isopentane
The proportions are 16.4, 15.2, 34.2, 17.4, 16.8 respectively
Isopentane is in a liquid state at room temperature and functions in the refrigerant pre-cooling section; ethylene, nitrogen, and methane are present in the cryogenic section, with nitrogen playing a primary role in providing support and propulsion. Propane is mainly found in the upper part of the cold box, where there is more of a pre-cooling section; ethylene and propane play a key role in supplying cooling capacity. The molecular weight of the mixed refrigerant affects energy consumption. More heavy components result in higher energy consumption, while fewer of them lead to lower energy consumption.
During normal operation, the compressor current increases significantly after nitrogen is added, while it decreases when isopentane is added. Could you explain this phenomenon? Thank you!
