In LNG production, to what pressure is the raw natural gas generally compressed first?

Why does raw natural gas need to be pressurized first? Compression helps reduce the size of the equipment, and at high pressures, gas is more likely to turn into a liquid, which facilitates heat exchange. Are there any other thermodynamic considerations aside from these? I’m seeking advice from those who are more experienced; thank you!
