Independent intellectual property rights, clean and efficient utilization – China Chemical News. On January 23, the Hubei Technology Exchange organized experts in Dangyang, Yichang, to assess the scientific and technological achievements of the project titled “Key Technologies for the Efficient Co-production of Synthetic Ammonia and LNG from Smokeless Pulverized Coal,” a project carried out jointly by Hubei Jinkong Gas Co., Ltd., Wuhan University of Technology, and Saiding Engineering Co., Ltd. The expert group unanimously concluded that the scientific and technological achievements of this project are at an internationally advanced level as a whole; in particular, the structure of the JM-S new-type gasifier and the full waste-boiler process technology rank among the world’s best, offering cost-effective technical solutions for the green and low-carbon transformation of China’s coal chemical industry. According to Luo Junjie, general manager of JinKong Gas Company, this set of key technologies focuses on the efficient and clean utilization of smokeless pulverized coal, and comprises four core technologies. These include the JM-S furnace pulverized coal pressurized gasification process technology, the gasification water treatment process technology, the \"adiabatic + isothermal\" shift process technology, and the LNG liquid nitrogen washing process technology for co-producing coal-based nitrogen fertilizers. Together, these technologies enable the efficient, clean, and differentiated utilization of smokeless pulverized coal. The expert group believes that there are four main aspects of innovation in this set of key technologies. First, it features the JM-S new type of gasification furnace design and a complete waste-boiler-based process flow developed for smokeless pulverized coal; during the gasification process, 10.5% methane is produced as a by-product, with a carbon conversion rate of over 99% and a cold gas efficiency of over 87%. Secondly, a simple and efficient treatment process and equipment for gasification wastewater generated in coal pulverization pressure gasification have been developed. Compared with traditional methods for treating gasification wastewater, these systems result in significantly lower energy consumption, land use, and investment costs, offering clear technical and economic advantages. Thirdly, a \"adiabatic + isothermal\" coupled conversion process was developed, which was applied for the first time in the field of coal gasification under pressure for synthetic ammonia production; through the coupled design of two-stage conversion furnaces, the resistance of the conversion unit was kept below 0.3 MPa. Fourth, an efficient co-production process for coal-based nitrogen fertilizers and LNG using liquid nitrogen washing was developed, achieving a product purity of over 99% and thereby increasing the value of the by-products. Luo Junjie said that the outcomes of this project have established a comprehensive system for protecting independent intellectual property rights, creating a holistic approach that combines patents, software copyrights, and technical integration. It has obtained multiple invention patents, software copyrights, and utility model patents. A comprehensive set of process technology systems was developed based on core technologies; through the synergistic integration of multiple technologies, industrial application was achieved, laying a solid foundation for subsequent large-scale deployment. Verified through industrial-scale operation, this technological achievement demonstrates excellent stability, reliability, and adaptability, yielding significant economic and social benefits. On the one hand, the core equipment is 100% domestically produced, which significantly reduces project investment and subsequent maintenance costs; at the same production capacity, it offers greater economic competitiveness compared to other new coal gasification technologies ; On the other hand, the device operates smoothly, with key equipment maintaining a long continuous operation period, resulting in low overall energy consumption and significant environmental benefits. In terms of its contribution to regional development, this technology application project has become an important support for Hubei’s energy and chemical industry. Among them, liquid ammonia, the main product, accounts for 8.5% of Hubei Province’s production, serving as a key raw material for the province’s fertilizer and phosphate chemical industries ; LNG production accounts for 9% of Hubei Province’s total output, effectively supplementing the supply of clean energy in central China. It plays a key role in optimizing the regional energy structure and supporting the stable development of the regional economy. Luo Junjie said that this technology enables the efficient and clean, differentiated utilization of coal resources; by producing synthetic ammonia, it also generates high-quality LNG, thereby increasing the overall value and economic efficiency of the raw coal used. This process route broadens the range of technical options for new coal chemical projects, and is particularly suitable for areas with natural gas demands. Co-production of LNG can effectively diversify the regional energy supply structure and enhance the ability to regulate energy use independently, playing a positive role in ensuring regional energy security and promoting the coordinated development of the chemical and energy industries. It is reported that the \"key technologies for the efficient co-production of synthetic ammonia and LNG from smokeless pulverized coal\", developed by organizations such as JinKong Gas, have been successfully applied in the \"490,000 tons of synthetic ammonia and 560,000 tons of urea\" project carried out by Shanxi Lilac Coal Chemical Co., Ltd. Companies such as Jiangsu Xinsuangduo, Qianjiang Jinhuarun, and Hunan Jinniu have also conducted multiple rounds of technical verification on this complete set of technologies, and are currently working on the preliminary design for these projects. The expert group stated that this technology not only provides a mature and reliable solution for the technical renovation and upgrading of old ammonia synthesis plants in Hubei Province and across the country, but also expands the range of technical options available for new coal chemical projects. Its ability to enrich the regional energy supply structure by producing LNG and to enhance the capacity for independent energy management makes it highly significant for ensuring regional energy security and promoting the coordinated development of the chemical and energy industries. It will serve as a strong driving force for the green and low-carbon transformation of China’s coal chemical industry.
