D Significant figures: Specifically, they refer to the digits that can actually be measured in the analytical process. What can be measured includes the last estimated, uncertain digit. We call the accurate figures obtained through direct reading reliable figures; we call the figures obtained through estimation doubtful figures. All the digits in a measurement that reflect the size of the quantity being measured and contain at least one uncertain digit are called significant figures.
