According to Sinochem News, the first Vocational Skills Competition for Chemical Analysts in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, jointly organized by the China Energy, Chemistry and Geology Trade Union and the Jiangsu Provincial Federation of Trade Unions, came to an end in Yangzhou recently. Through the approach of using competitions to promote training and cultivate talent, the competition selects outstanding technical experts for the chemical and pharmaceutical industries across the country. Since its launch in July this year, trade unions at all levels have organized multi-level, comprehensive skill training programs and competition events; 36 selection venues were set up, with a total of 1,188 enterprises participating, and over 61,000 workers received training. The competition emphasizes the combination of theory and practical skills; while assessing contestants’ theoretical knowledge, it also includes four standardized practical assessment modules: chemical analysis, chromatographic analysis, spectrophotometric analysis, and identification of safety hazards in laboratories. This approach enables a comprehensive evaluation of contestants’ theoretical understanding, practical skills, and safety awareness, thereby promoting the integration of these skills and the simultaneous improvement of their overall competence. 36 teams from 25 provinces across the country, comprising 118 competitors, competed against each other, with 10 winners awarded first, second, and third prizes in the individual categories. Lei Zhiwen, a chemical analyst from Room 1 of the Quality Inspection Center at Sinopec Yangzi Petrochemical, Jiang Gan, an analytical laboratory technician at Jiangsu Yangnong Chemical Co., Ltd., and Jiang Yu, an analyst at Jiangsu Yangnong Chemical Group Co., Ltd., won the first prize. At the closing ceremony, the China Energy, Chemical and Geology Trade Union focused on the field of chemical analysis and held a Yangzhou-specific session of the \"Ideological and Political Education Course for Chinese Workers\". Presenters from Chongqing Jianfeng Industrial Group Co., Ltd., Jiangsu Yangnong Chemical Group Co., Ltd., Fujian Energy Petrochemical Group Haiquan Chemical Co., Ltd., Sinopec Yizheng Chemical Fiber Co., Ltd., and Shandong Lukang Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., vividly shared stories of their own, their colleagues’, or their teams’ growth as they overcame difficulties. Jiao Qingbiao, Deputy Secretary of the Yangzhou Municipal Party Committee and Secretary-General, said in his speech that the city has designated May 9th of each year as the \"Yangzhou Craftsmen’s Day.\" It has also formulated the first specialized regulation for skilled workers among all cities with districts in China, established detailed rules for selecting high-skilled workers, and created a working framework backed by policies, institutional safeguards, and ongoing evaluation of outcomes. The city has also focused on key competitive industries such as new materials and biomedicine, establishing 14 specialized industry skill academies including the Biomedical Craftsmen Academy, thereby training 313,000 highly skilled professionals.
