If cyclopentadiene is hydrogenated to produce cyclopentene, the cost would be very high. To separate cyclopentene using separation techniques, many preprocessing facilities would be needed in the initial stage. However, I think it is mainly policy pressures that result in low production rates among chemical companies
Is it just due to environmental pressures?

The pyrolysis product of C5 is cyclopentadiene, not cyclopentene.
I know what you mean – that the content of cyclopentene is low while that of cyclopentadiene is high. But what I’m discussing here is the issue of cyclopentene as a single olefin; in China, there are methods for its direct separation, though the yield is not high. I study the separation of pyrolyzed C5; I’m only familiar with cyclopentadiene, and I’ve really never dealt with cyclopentene
Cyclopentene makes up about 2% of the C5 fraction in pyrolysis gas, so its separation is not very significant
Then I have a question you might know the answer to: cyclopentadiene accounts for about 15 wt% in C5 cracking, while dicyclopentadiene accounts for about 40 wt% in C9 cracking. How can the potential total amount of cyclopentadiene be calculated? If C5 and C9 are simply added together, is there a risk of double counting?
