Let’s give praise and support to the achievements in China’s chemical engineering technology and equipment. **********************[A Decade of Progress in Chemical Engineering Equipment] A continuously updated summary thread – feel free to join the discussions: https://bbs.hcbbs.com/thread-3576046-1-1.html (Source: Haichuan Chemical Engineering Forum) ***************** Successful trial operation of styrene extraction unit at Maoming Petrochemical Plant Good news came from Maoming Petrochemical Plant in Guangdong on July 22, 2011: China’s first styrene extraction unit for pyrolysis gasoline, designed and built independently using domestically developed process technologies, has successfully completed its trial operation – with an annual production capacity of 30,000 tons. 　　This project utilizes a comprehensive set of technologies that combines the styrene extraction and distillation technique developed by the Sinopec Research Institute of Petrochemical Science, with the C8 and C9 separation technology as well as the selective hydrogenation technology for C8 phenylacetylene developed by Guangdong Xinhua Yue Petrochemical. These technologies are used to extract high-purity polymer-grade styrene from the C8 fraction of Maoming ethylene pyrolysis gasoline; the plant has a processing capacity of 250,000 tons per year, resulting in an annual output of around 30,000 tons of styrene. Construction of this facility began in May 2010, and after a year of construction and preparation for production, it is now in official use. 　　The technology, equipment, materials, and core technologies of this project have all been 100% domestically produced. After the trial operation, it was found that not only does the system operate smoothly, with reliable safety and environmental protection technologies, but it also requires lower investment costs compared to systems that use foreign technologies, has lower energy consumption during production. The styrene products produced have good color, high purity, and stable quality, fully meeting and even exceeding the design specifications. Moreover, the level of comprehensive utilization of the pyrolysis gasoline is higher.
