Zhejiang Petrochemical’s 1.4 million tons per year ethylene plant is set to undergo trial operation

Over the past few days, the pressure testing of the process pipelines for Zhejiang Petrochemical’s 1.4 million tons per year ethylene plant, which is being constructed by the 10th Construction Company of the Refining and Chemical Engineering Division, has been carried out in full swing, marking the gradual entry of this project into its finalization and commissioning phases. 　　Since the beginning of 2019, the Zhoushan Islands, where Zhejiang Petrochemical’s ethylene plant is located, have been affected by poor weather conditions such as continuous rain, strong winds, and drops in temperature. The construction team responsible for the Zhejiang Petrochemical ethylene project re-evaluated all the construction tasks that needed to be completed before the Spring Festival, adopting as a guiding principle the approach of using pressure testing of process pipelines to help finalize the project. By continuously optimizing the construction plans, the project team has accelerated the progress of the remaining welding work on the process pipelines. It has also done thorough preparatory work for key tasks such as the commissioning of the compression units in the ethylene plant, thereby creating favorable conditions for achieving high-standard completion of the project after the Spring Festival. 　　It is understood that the ethylene plant at Zhejiang Petrochemical, with a production capacity of 1.4 million tons per year, has as many as 2,375 pressure testing packages for its process pipelines, and it faces challenges such as a short pressure testing period, numerous concurrent operations, and a wide spread of testing locations. To this end, the project team held consecutive meetings on the pressure testing of process pipelines in mid-January, in order to accelerate the finalization and pressure testing of the pipeline systems on site. The project team began by organizing the preparation of pressure testing plans, ensuring thorough control over the status of weld inspection for the process pipelines. They brought together the relevant responsible persons and technicians from various areas of the ethylene plant to check pending tasks during the day, and worked on drafting the pressure testing plans at night. At the same time, owners and supervisors are actively organized to conduct comprehensive reviews of each pipeline pressure testing package throughout the entire process, ensuring that the pressure testing of process pipelines is carried out safely, with high quality and efficiency. 　　As of January 20, the project team had completed a total of 102 pressure testing packages for the process pipelines, which effectively accelerated the final stages of construction for various components of the ethylene plant and laid a solid foundation for the successful completion of all construction tasks after the Spring Festival.
