According to China Petroleum Network, on December 15, the 2026 National Energy Work Conference was held in Beijing. **A responsible official from the Energy Bureau said that by 2025, China’s oil and gas production will reach new historical highs: crude oil production is expected to be around 215 million tons, while natural gas production will exceed 260 billion cubic meters, with an increase of over 10 billion cubic meters for nine consecutive years. By 2025, China’s energy security will be well safeguarded and effectively ensured; the results in terms of supply maintenance will be the best since the 14th Five-Year Plan period. The country will be able to effectively cope with the challenge of electricity demand exceeding last year’s peaks 20 times during the peak summer periods. The seven-year action plan aimed at increasing reserves and production of oil and gas will be successfully completed, and the level of complementarity and mutual support among various energy resources will continue to improve. The safety situation of the power system will remain stable. In terms of complementary utilization of energy resources, the layout of electricity flow across the country has been optimized, and efforts have been made to strengthen the construction of inter-provincial and inter-regional power transmission lines. Five projects for inter-regional electricity sharing, including those between Fujian and Jiangxi, have been approved; the ultra-high-voltage direct current power transmission project between Tibet and Guangdong has also been approved for implementation. As a result, the country’s capacity for transmitting electricity from the west to the east has reached 340 million kilowatts. Lines 3 and 4 of the West-to-East Gas Pipeline Project are in full operation, while the first section of Line 2 of the Sichuan-to-East Gas Pipeline Project has been completed and put into use. Provincial oil and gas pipelines are being integrated steadily into the national network, bringing the total length of long-distance oil and gas pipelines to 200,000 kilometers. The volume of coal transported from major production areas exceeded 1.9 billion tons. Energy efforts in 2026 will aim to achieve a higher level of energy security, strengthen the foundation for coal supply assurance, improve the capacity to ensure electricity supply, enhance the production and supply capabilities of oil and gas, optimize the layout of key energy transportation routes, and raise the inherent safety level of energy infrastructure.
