On February 18, CNPC and Sinopec announced on the same day that they would establish the China Petroleum Molecular Management Innovation Consortium and Sinopec Catalyst (Tianjin) Co., Ltd., respectively, with both entities being located in Tianjin. On February 18, the founding meeting of the CNPC Molecular Management Innovation Consortium was held in Beijing. It was announced at the meeting that the China Petroleum Molecular Management Innovation Consortium was officially established. China National Petroleum Corporation attaches great importance to innovation in molecular management; at the China National Petroleum Corporation Science, Technology and Informatization Innovation Conference held in September 2021, molecular management was listed as one of the ten key areas for scientific and technological innovation during China National Petroleum Corporation’s 14th Five-Year Plan period. (Molecular management technology is a fundamental and transformative technology in the oil and petrochemical industry; by enhancing the understanding of molecules and simulating and optimizing oil processing processes, it enables the full exploitation of the value of crude oil molecules, thereby achieving efficient utilization of crude oil resources.) To accelerate the development of core technologies for molecular management as well as the integrated collaborative research on key projects, the Petroleum Planning Institute of China, serving as the lead entity in research on molecular management technologies, joined forces with seven affiliated companies—including Dushanzi Petrochemical Company, Jinxī Petrochemical Company, Fushun Petrochemical Company, Lubricant Company, Petroleum and Chemical Research Institute, Huanqiu Engineering Company, and Kunlun Digital Intelligence Company—as well as ten domestic and international universities and research institutions such as Tsinghua University, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China University of Petroleum (Beijing), China University of Petroleum (East China), East China University of Science and Technology, Dalian University of Technology, East China Normal University, China University of Mining and Technology, Manchester University, and Tsinghua Pearl River Delta Research Institute. Together, they established the China Petroleum Molecular Management Innovation Consortium. The establishment of the China Petroleum Molecular Management Innovation Consortium is not only an important measure for thoroughly implementing the **innovation strategy, but also a practical approach to fostering cooperation between enterprises and universities as well as to promoting collaborative innovation. By leveraging the strengths and innovative resources of universities and research institutions, it aims to enhance a company’s capacity for scientific and technological innovation. This will further improve the level of cooperation between China Petroleum and such institutions, as well as the efficiency in commercializing significant research results and innovative technologies, thereby strengthening China Petroleum’s capabilities in scientific and technological innovation and contributing to achieving high levels of self-reliance and strength in this field. CNPC will strive to turn the Molecular Management Innovation Consortium into a premier hub for technological innovation, a center for translating research results into practical applications, an open platform for international cooperation, and a base for talent development. By focusing on the research and development of molecular management technologies as well as addressing the technical challenges in the refining and chemical processing industries, CNPC will accelerate the establishment of a comprehensive system for molecular management technologies. It will also continue to promote the industrial application of innovative achievements and serve as a model for others, thereby enhancing the core competitiveness of its refining and chemical processing operations and helping to build a world-class enterprise with sustainable success. Sinopec On February 18, Sinopec Catalysts (Tianjin) Co., Ltd. held an unveiling ceremony, officially establishing its presence in the Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area. The company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sinopec Catalyst Co., Ltd., with a registered capital of 620 million yuan; it will make every effort to ensure the construction and commissioning of Sinopec Catalyst Co., Ltd.’s new material production base for catalysts in Tianjin. “During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Sinopec Group invested in the construction of 11 key projects, including ethylene plants, in the Nangang Industrial Zone of Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area, with a total investment of 60.3 billion yuan. The development of the high-end new materials project cluster at Sinopec’s Tianjin Nangang facility is a major initiative aimed at implementing the relevant decision-making arrangements and advancing the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. It represents an important step for Tianjin in becoming a national hub for advanced manufacturing and research and development, as well as a key effort by Sinopec to become a world-leading company in the field of clean energy chemicals. As one of the 11 key projects, the Catalyst Tianjin New Materials Production Base project of Sinopec Catalyst Co., Ltd. has a total investment of approximately 6.5 billion yuan. The project is divided into two phases. Phase 1 requires an investment of around 3.2 billion yuan and covers an area of approximately 480,000 square meters. It focuses on the construction of 7 catalyst production facilities for various types of catalysts, including polyolefin catalysts, silver catalysts, hydrogenation carrier materials, selective molecular sieves, carbon-carbon triple bond catalysts, conventional molecular sieves, and adsorbents, along with the supporting auxiliary facilities. The second-phase investment amounts to about 3.3 billion yuan, and it is primarily used for the production of molecular sieves, battery cathode materials, aluminum-based new materials, and other new products. Once all projects are fully operational, the output value will exceed 8.5 billion yuan, helping to turn the Nangang Industrial Zone into a world-class base for chemical new materials. Sinopec Catalyst Co., Ltd. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sinopec Corporation, and it is a globally renowned manufacturer, supplier, and service provider of refining and petrochemical catalysts. At present, the company’s annual production capacity is 230,000 tons.
