On June 7, the project \"Comprehensive technology for upgrading medium- and low-temperature coal tar using fluidized-bed hydrogenation followed by fixed-bed hydrocracking,\" jointly developed by the Dalian Petrochemical Research Institute, Guangzhou (Luoyang) Engineering Company, and Shaanxi Jingyi Chemical Company, was approved by the Science and Technology Department of Sinopec Group. Experts unanimously agree that the process technology of this project is a world first, and its complete set of technologies reaches an internationally advanced level. In recent years, with the implementation of the policies on dual control of energy consumption, the deep and efficient utilization of full-range coal tar has become an urgent issue for enterprises to address. In view of the complex structure and high impurity content of full-range coal tar, the project team developed a set of proprietary technologies for the boiling-bed hydrogenation upgrading and fixed-bed hydrocracking of full-range medium- and low-temperature coal tar. These technologies addressed issues such as poor operational stability and short service life associated with traditional coal tar processing units, and 12 Chinese invention patents have been granted for this work. Currently, this technology has been applied in an industrial facility in Shaanxi with a capacity of 500,000 tons per year. The hydrocracking unit has been operating stably for 21 months, and the naphtha produced can be used directly as a feedstock for catalytic reforming. This device can also flexibly produce special high-naphthenic hydrocarbon oil raw materials according to market demand.
