On December 7, the groundbreaking ceremony for Dongming Petrochemical’s 300,000 tons per year UPC technology pilot project was held. Zhang Xinwen, Secretary of the Heze Municipal Party Committee, and Zhang Lun, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Mayor of the city, led the city’s economic and social development observation delegation at the departure ceremony. Sun Qianguo, Secretary of the Dongming County Party Committee, attended the ceremony, while Zhao Hailin, Deputy Secretary of the Dongming County Party Committee and County Head, presided over it. It is reported that the UPC technology pilot project utilizes the super catalytic cracking of crude oil to produce olefins (UPC) technology, which was developed in collaboration with China University of Petroleum (Huadong). This technology has been verified through industrial trials; it boasts advantages such as low energy consumption, high yield, and a short processing sequence. Following a technical appraisal involving three academicians and ten renowned industry experts, its technological level has been deemed to be internationally leading. Thus, the conditions for constructing an industrial-scale plant are now met. Compared to traditional “refining-petrochemical integration” processes, this technology can reduce crude oil consumption by approximately 60% when producing ethylene on the same scale. Li Xiangping, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Shandong Dongming Petrochemical Group Co., Ltd., said that in recent years Dongming Petrochemical has been increasing its investment in research and development, achieving fruitful results as a result. The promotion and application of UPC technology can not only meet the domestic demand for high-end chemical raw materials by replacing imports, but also address the issue of excess refined oil. It can significantly enhance the overall competitiveness of China’s petrochemical industry, effectively reduce the pressure on crude oil imports, and contribute to maintaining energy security.
