Environmental impact assessment for Wanhua Penglai acrylic acid and esters project approved. On May 16, 2024, an announcement was made regarding the approval of the environmental impact assessment for the second phase of Wanhua Chemical (Penglai) Co., Ltd.’s acrylic acid and esters project. The second phase of this project involves the construction of an acrylic acid plant with a capacity of 160,000 tons per year, a butyl acrylate plant with a capacity of 400,000 tons per year, along with the necessary utility systems and auxiliary facilities. The total number of employees required for this project is 58, and construction is scheduled to begin in May 2024, with a construction period of 14 months. Public announcement on the environmental impact assessment for Satellite Chemical’s 90,000-ton acrylic acid project: In May 2024, an environmental impact assessment was conducted for Satellite Chemical’s acrylic acid upgrading project. This project is planned to be constructed on the newly acquired land to the south of the existing western factory complex of Satellite Chemical Co., Ltd. in Jiaxing Industrial Park, Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province. The area of this newly acquired land is 47.52 mu. Equipment such as a first reactor, a second reactor, a quench tower, an extraction tower, an acrylic acid evaporator, and various types of heat exchangers will be purchased. Upon completion, the project will enable an increased production capacity of 90,000 tons of acrylic acid and 100,000 tons of refined acrylic acid per year ； In addition, the original 1.2t/h waste liquid incinerator was upgraded and modified. Changhong High-Tech plans to build an acrylic acid industrial park. On April 30, 2024, Changhong High-Tech issued a statement announcing that it intends to invest around 11.5 billion yuan in building such an industrial park in Maoming City, Guangdong Province. The project will be carried out in two phases; in the first phase, production lines for 50,000 tons per year of acrylic acid and 50,000 tons per year of acrylates will be built, with an estimated construction period of two years ； Building on the successful industrialization and profitability of Phase 1, Phase 2 plans to construct facilities for acrylic acid, acrylates, superabsorbent resins, products related to various stages of the industry chain, as well as utility systems, in a phased manner. This project will adopt an innovative one-step oxidation process for acrylate production, using inexpensive propane as a raw material instead of the more costly propylene. Acrylate is produced through direct oxidation in a single step, and then esterification and polymerization processes are used to manufacture high-value products such as acrylates and SAP (superabsorbent polymers). This process has advantages such as a simple workflow and low equipment investment.
