In December 2024, the 1.6 million-ton ethylene plant of ExxonMobil’s Huizhou Ethylene Project Phase I was completed, entering the full commissioning phase. ExxonMobil’s Huizhou ethylene project is **one of the major foreign-invested projects**, with a total investment of around $10 billion and is being constructed in two phases. The project is located in the Daya Bay Petrochemical Zone in Huizhou. The first phase includes a flexible feed steam cracking unit with an annual production capacity of 1.6 million tons of ethylene, two units for producing high-performance linear low-density polyethylene with a combined annual capacity of 1.2 million tons, one of the world’s largest low-density polyethylene units with an annual production capacity of 500,000 tons, two units for producing high-performance polypropylene with a combined annual capacity of 950,000 tons, as well as various supporting facilities such as a heavy cargo terminal. Once the first-phase project reaches full production capacity, it is expected to generate annual revenue of 39 billion yuan. Key project milestone: On September 4, 2024, the three buildings of the ExxonMobil Huizhou Ethylene Project – the station building, the telecommunications cabinet room, and the substation – constructed by the Guangdong branch of China National Chemical Engineering Corporation’s 13th Construction Company – successfully passed the joint inspection, marking the successful completion of the project construction. On June 30, 2024, the vehicle loading and unloading facilities for the final unit of the ExxonMobil Huizhou Ethylene Phase I project, which is under the Guangdong branch of China National Chemical Engineering Corporation No. 13, were successfully handed over. With this, all construction tasks for the project have been completed, achieving successful completion to high standards! On February 18, 2024, Tan Rankè from ExxonMobil China* mentioned at the Guangdong High-Quality Development Conference that ExxonMobil has invested over 30 billion yuan in the first phase of the ethylene plant in Huizhou, Guangdong, and will invest another 10 billion yuan in 2024. At the end of August 2022, the commissioning ceremony was held for the 500,000 tons per year LDPE (low-density polyethylene) production unit of ExxonMobil’s Huizhou ethylene project. In March 2022, ExxonMobil’s Huizhou ethylene project (Phase 1) saw an additional investment of $2.397 billion, raising the total investment for Phase 1 to $6.34 billion. On November 16, 2021, the comprehensive construction kickoff for ExxonMobil’s Huizhou ethylene project was held simultaneously in Daya Bay, Huizhou, Beijing, and Houston, United States, marking the entry of the project’s production facilities into the full-scale construction phase. On November 8, 2021, ExxonMobil announced the full-scale advancement of its multi-billion-dollar chemical complex project located in the Daya Bay Petrochemical Industrial Zone in Huizhou, Guangdong. On April 22, 2020, the ExxonMobil Huizhou Ethylene Project commenced construction in the Daya Bay Petrochemical Zone in Huizhou, Guangdong. In November 2019, the Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission approved the Huizhou Ethylene Phase I project.
