Qilu Petrochemical’s high-pressure polyethylene plant sets a record for extended operation duration: 2025-03-24 Qilu Petrochemical is working to achieve longer operation periods for its plants, thereby significantly improving their performance. As of March 13, the high-pressure polyethylene plant stopped operation after running safely for 122 consecutive days to undergo brief maintenance, setting a record for the longest operating period in 13 years. It is extremely difficult to operate this device over long periods of time. Qilu Petrochemical has set the goals of being able to operate cost-effectively, maintaining stability, and ensuring long-term operation, and it has established a team dedicated to addressing challenges related to long-term operation in order to carry out comprehensive efforts in this regard. To address the challenges in production, they conducted brainstorming sessions and conducted in-depth analyses to solve the problems that hindered the stable operation of the equipment. By inviting experts for guidance and sending personnel out to learn from others, communication with relevant organizations is strengthened. Core equipment operation data is analyzed dynamically through methods such as special care for large-scale units and multi-disciplinary joint inspections, in order to identify the bottlenecks that hinder the long-term operation of the facilities. They regard issue management as an important measure, assigning dedicated personnel to explain the process of handling issues and relevant precautions, and compiling this information into a classroom resource database to enhance the effectiveness of training. The on-duty staff regularly monitor and record parameters such as equipment temperature and vibration levels on a daily basis to ensure that the devices are operating in their optimal condition. While ensuring long-term operation, they adjust production grades in a timely manner in response to market changes, and increase the production volume of high-value-added products. During this long-term operation, a production volume of nearly 60,000 tons was achieved, of which over 10,000 tons were high-voltage cable base materials and more than 2,000 tons were coated materials, resulting in significant economic benefits.
