Sinopec has been granted an invention patent: “Zirconium-containing catalysts, their preparation methods and applications, as well as a method for producing butadiene from ethanol and acetaldehyde”. As shown by data from the Tianyancha app, Sinopec (600028) has received a new invention patent; the title of this patent is “Zirconium-containing catalysts, their preparation methods and applications, as well as a method for producing butadiene from ethanol and acetaldehyde”. The patent application number is CN202111263362.6, and the date of grant was October 3, 2025. Patent abstract: The present invention provides a zirconium-containing catalyst, as well as its preparation method and applications. This catalyst comprises a mesoporous silica carrier and zirconia loaded on said carrier; the basicity of the alkaline sites in the mesoporous silica carrier is ≤5 μmol/g, and the average pore size of the mesoporous silica carrier is ≥4 nm. This method involves using mesoporous silica as a raw material, subjecting it to acid washing, and then calcining it at a temperature of 700–800°C to obtain a mesoporous silica carrier ; The precursor of the element zirconium is deposited on the mesoporous silica carrier, dried, and then calcined. The present invention provides a method for preparing butadiene from ethanol and acetaldehyde. The catalyst of the present invention is used in a two-step process for the production of butadiene from ethanol, wherein an ethanol–acetaldehyde–water mixture is fed to be converted into butadiene, and it exhibits significant performance advantages in terms of catalytic activity and the selectivity obtained at the given reaction temperature.
