On November 25th, after seven days of continuous intensive efforts, Guangdong Petrochemical’s 500,000 tons per year polypropylene production facility was able to resume production of the high-melting fiber grade polypropylene material PP-HY0370; to date, 2,800 tons of this material have been produced. Especially when production is carried out on the world’s largest granulation units, risks such as blade entanglement, blade jamming, and even \"intussusception\" are more likely to occur. During the process of changing production, as the peroxide concentration increased, large pieces, sheets, and clumps appeared on multiple occasions; this not only affected product quality but could also lead to issues such as tool jamming and tool retraction. Meanwhile, during the process conversion, the extrusion granulator also experienced frequent abnormalities due to issues such as mismatched process parameters and feed fluctuations, forcing it to be shut down multiple times for troubleshooting before it could be restarted. Frequent starting and stopping not only disrupts the normal production rhythm and increases the workload, but also places higher demands on on-site coordination and teamwork among various teams. In the face of these challenges, Guangdong Petrochemical attaches great importance to them, and the daily morning coordination meetings are used to focus on planning tasks related to the transition to new production processes. Hu Gang, the person in charge of the department’s production processes, has repeatedly emphasized: \"We must uphold the spirit of perseverance, breaking through step by step and solving problems one by one.\" By not giving up easily and pooling the efforts and wisdom of everyone, we will surely succeed. ”To this end, Guangdong Petrochemical established a dedicated task force for the PP-HY0370 conversion project. By precisely controlling parameters such as the temperature of the extruder die, the speed of the pelletizer, the mesh size of the screen changer, and the opening degree of the throttle valve, single-variable control was implemented to advance the conversion process in an orderly manner, successfully resolving issues such as uneven material discharge from the die after the addition of peroxides and problems related to the pelletizer’s guide knives. The task force also employed scientific and quantitative methods to monitor in real time the formation rate and size of large pieces, and organized specialized teams to conduct cause analysis, ultimately overcoming the technical barriers associated with the formation of such large pieces. In addition, Guangdong Petrochemical has also carried out comprehensive optimizations to the start-up and shutdown procedures, in order to reduce the impact of frequent starts and stops on the system. The equipment crew should strengthen the monitoring of the condition of key components such as the main motor of the extruder, the gearbox, and the cutting knives, to ensure that the equipment remains in good working condition at all times.
