On December 8, Maoming High-Tech Zone announced projects planned as part of the ethylene upgrading project: the originally approved plan for this project called for the construction of facilities capable of producing 400,000 tons per year of full-density polyethylene (with room for metallocene polyethylene production), 200,000+300,000 tons per year of polypropylene, 240,000 tons per year of hydrogen peroxide, 300,000 tons per year of propylene oxide, and 500,000 tons per year of ABS, along with the corresponding utility systems and auxiliary facilities. In line with the principle of land conservation, the high-tech zone requires that the land use be kept under 2,500 mu. Through planning by Maoshan Petrochemical Company, the originally reserved 500 mu was also allocated for new projects. These include 14 projects such as a 250,000-ton/year polystyrene plant, a 30,000-ton/year mPAO plant, a 100,000-ton/year POE plant, a 100,000-ton/year plant for the polymerization of ethylene to produce 1-octene, a 100,000-ton/year project for graft modification of polypropylene, a 100,000-ton/year diisoinonyl cyclohexane dicarboxylate plant, a 15,000-ton/year alkyl naphthalene plant, a 20,000-ton/year isohexane solvent oil plant, a 40,000-ton/year EPDM rubber plant, a pilot plant for research and development, a storage and transportation tank area along with loading docks in the southern section, a 100,000-ton/year polyoxyethylene ether plant, a 50,000-ton/year plant for adhesive and resin modification, and a 20,000-ton/year 1,3-propanediol plant. All projects are incorporated into Nanhai Fine Chemicals Company for joint implementation. The ethylene upgrading project of Sinopec Maoming Branch aims to increase the capacity of the existing ethylene production facility from 1 million tons per year to 1.64 million tons per year. The specific measures involve building a new No. 3 ethylene plant with a capacity of 1 million tons per year, which will replace the existing No. 1 ethylene plant with a capacity of 360,000 tons per year. On October 29, the ethylene column of Unit 3, with a production capacity of 1 million tons per year, as part of Maoming Petrochemical’s upgrade project, was accurately hoisted into place. On November 3, the upgrade and renovation project of Maoming Petrochemical Company reached another key milestone: the project’s \"largest\" equipment, the No. 2 propylene tower, was successfully lifted into place thanks to the precise operation of a 4,000-ton crawler crane. With the installation of the highly capable No. 2 propylene tower, the key task involved in the Maoming Petrochemical upgrading project – namely the use of a 4,000-ton crawler crane in the chemical processing area – has been successfully completed. This lays a solid foundation for the timely completion and operation of the project by 2027.
