By 2025, revenue and profits are expected to increase by 41.4% and 36.2% respectively compared to 2020, according to Sinochem New Network. On February 6, at the press conference on the economic performance of China’s petroleum and chemical industry for 2025 held in Beijing, reporters learned that the operational performance of the petrochemical industry during the 14th Five-Year Plan period has been stable with progress being made, and that both revenue and profit levels are set to see significant increases by 2025 compared to 2020. Looking ahead to 2026, the petrochemical market is expected to experience a bottoming out and recovery, ushering in a new period of prosperity. Li Yunpeng, Secretary of the Party Committee and President of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation (hereinafter referred to as CPICF), attended the press conference. The meeting was chaired by Xue Xuetong, Deputy Secretary-General of Sinopec Union and Director of the General Office (Policy Research Office). Data released at the press conference showed that during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, the average annual growth rate of the main business revenue in the petrochemical industry was 4%, while the average annual growth rate of profits was 6.4%. Among them, the industry’s revenue in 2025 was 15.67 trillion yuan, representing a 41.4% increase compared to 2020 ; The total profit amounted to 702.09 billion yuan, representing a 36.2% increase compared to 2020 ; The industrial added value increased by 6.9% compared to 2024, which is 1 percentage point higher than the national industrial added value growth rate during the same period. According to Liu Guolin, deputy director of the Information and Market Department at Sinopec, by 2025, the petrochemical industry will actively address the increasing impact of external environmental changes as well as the prominent imbalance between strong domestic supply and weak demand. Economic performance will show steady progress, contributing positively to ensuring energy security, food security, and other aspects. Among them, the production of major energy sources and chemicals remained stable; crude oil production saw seven consecutive increases, while natural gas production experienced nine consecutive increases” ; The apparent consumption of major energy sources and chemicals generally continued to rise, with apparent consumption of ethylene increasing by 7.7% and that of fertilizers increasing by 1.4%. However, both industry investment and total import and export trade volume declined, while export volumes experienced rapid growth, keeping the overall situation stable. Regarding the industry landscape in 2026, Fu Xiangsheng, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice President of Sinopec, pointed out in his keynote speech that the task of adjusting and optimizing the petrochemical industry structure remains arduous, and the challenges associated with original innovation, breakthroughs in key core technologies, and achieving high levels of technological self-reliance are still severe. But at the same time, it also faces opportunities such as the restructuring of global supply chains and moderate growth in the global economy. With the restructuring of global industrial layouts and capacity adjustments, as well as the positive effects of efforts to curb \"cutthroat\" competition within China, by 2026 the petrochemical industry in China will face more opportunities than challenges overall, with favorable conditions outweighing those that are unfavorable. The petrochemical market will emerge from its previous period of stagnation and start to recover. In the face of the new requirements for high-quality development at this new stage of growth, Fu Xiangsheng pointed out that the petrochemical industry needs to manage and handle well the \"four relationships\": those between traditional industries and strategically important emerging industries, between old and new drivers of development, between fossil resources and low-carbon resources, and between improving new assets and revitalizing existing ones. It should adhere to the general principle of making progress while maintaining stability, focus on improving quality and efficiency, emphasize independent innovation and high-level technological self-reliance, prioritize structural upgrading and green, low-carbon transformation, accelerate the processes of digitalization and internationalization, and strive to achieve effective improvements in quality and reasonable growth in volume within the petrochemical industry, so as to ensure a good start for the 15th Five-Year Plan period.
