Guangzhou Petrochemical successfully carried out trial production of a new metallocene polypropylene product

Recently, the new metallocene polypropylene catalyst SMC-PL02, independently developed by the Beijing Research Institute of Chemical Technology, was successfully applied on an industrial scale at Guangzhou Petrochemical’s No. 2 polypropylene plant, enabling the production of two new high-end metallocene polypropylene products: MC1005 and MC1009. These products possess key advantages such as low precipitation, high purity, and high transparency, and can be widely used in various high-end fields including premium packaging, functional films, and synthetic fibers, filling the gap in the production and application of such high-performance materials. Relying on its own core catalytic technologies that are under its control, the North China Institute of Chemical Technology actively assists manufacturing enterprises in overcoming the production challenges associated with high-performance polyolefin materials, thereby helping to drive the domestic polyolefin industry toward higher performance and more specialized developments. Since 2025, the SMC-PL01 metallocene catalyst developed by Beijing Institute of Chemical Technology has been successfully applied on an industrial scale at Guangzhou Petrochemical, Zhongyuan Petrochemical, and Yangzi Petrochemical, enabling the accumulation of substantial experience in industrial production.
