On March 29, the author learned that the 400,000 tons per year high-density polyethylene plant of Guangdong Petrochemical successfully used a catalyst developed by the Beijing Research Institute of Chemical Technology to produce film materials. Tests have shown that all specifications of the product meet the required standards, marking a solid step forward for the company in its efforts to replace imported catalysts with domestically produced ones in its polyolefin production facilities. To advance the localization of \"three types of catalysts\", reduce production costs, and mitigate supply chain risks, the Second Department of Guangdong Petrochemicals took the initiative to form a task force dedicated to developing domestic catalysts, consisting of experts from various fields such as process engineering, equipment design, and safety. The team conducted in-depth research on the key technical parameters of domestic catalysts, comprehensively compared their suitability for use in various manufacturing processes compared to imported catalysts, and accurately predicted various potential abnormalities that might arise during production. During the trial production process, the task force remained on duty throughout the time, monitoring the reaction status in real time together with the operators of the plant, thus laying a solid foundation for the successful completion of the trial production. “Preliminary calculations show that during this trial production period, the cost of producing each ton of polyethylene using domestic catalysts is more than 10 yuan lower compared to using imported catalysts. This yields significant economic benefits for large-scale continuous production. ”said Wang Shuwei, the process engineer at the facility. To date, the Second Chemical Engineering Department has used domestic catalysts to produce 98,400 tons of six different types of products, generating economic benefits worth 3.37 million yuan.
