Sinochem News Recently, the "Oilfield Chemicals" industry report released by S&P Global Energy CERA's Specialty Chemicals Update Program (SCUP) shows that in 2025, the global demand for polyacrylamide in the fields of oil and gas hydraulic fracturing and tertiary oil recovery will total 700,000 tons, showing a continued expansion trend. The average annual demand growth rates in these two fields in the next five years will be 6.2% and 1.2% respectively. In terms of consumption pattern, China's polyacrylamide consumption accounts for more than half of the world's consumption, and demand is mainly concentrated in the field of tertiary oil recovery. ; North America ranks as the world's second largest market by virtue of its advantages in the shale hydraulic fracturing industry. Driven by factors such as the decline in conventional crude oil reserves and various countries' efforts to stabilize and increase production, global polyacrylamide demand is expected to grow at an average annual compound growth rate of 2.5% in the next five years. In North America, relying on the expansion of the fracturing industry, the annual demand growth rate will exceed 5%. The report shows that the shale energy revolution has significantly boosted polyacrylamide consumption. In the field of oil and gas field development, fracturing technology is a key means to increase oil and gas production, and polyacrylamide, as the core component of drag reducing agents for fracturing, plays a vital role. Global demand for polyacrylamide for hydraulic fracturing will reach 176,000 tons in 2025. As shale development in North America and other places continues to advance, the average annual growth rate will rise to 6.2% in the next five years. Tertiary oil recovery is another core application scenario of polyacrylamide. The related demand will exceed 500,000 tons in 2025, with an average annual growth rate of 1.2% in the next five years. Conventional mining can only recover about 35% of crude oil. Tertiary oil recovery has become a key means to stabilize production in mature oil fields. Mainstream technologies include carbon dioxide gas injection, steam flooding, chemical flooding, etc. Some oil fields with special geology and oil quality require the use of polymer flooding and ternary compound flooding to improve the fluidity of crude oil. Hydrolyzed polyacrylamide has become the optimal raw material due to its excellent rheological properties and strong chemical adjustability. The polyacrylamide supply-side pattern shows regional differentiation, with SNF Group and Sterling Specialty Chemicals (Sterling) dominating the markets in the Americas, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. ; The Chinese market is dominated by local companies, most of which are deeply tied to state-owned oil companies.
