In an ethylene plant, why is it necessary to establish a cooling water circulation first before starting the cooling oil circulation in the quenching system?
The quench water is also used for heat exchange in multiple heat exchangers
In the startup of ethylene plants, a reverse startup method is often used. Emergency cooling water is turned on first in order to establish an oil level balance within the emergency cooling tower; once the tower is functioning properly, the gasoline at the bottom of the tower can be sent to the emergency cooling oil tower. This approach saves time and prevents an excessive amount of oil from being used, in my opinion
The emergency cooling water is turned on first in order to establish an oil level balance within the emergency cooling water tower. Once this tower is functioning properly, the volatile gasoline at the top of the emergency cooling oil tower can be cooled by the emergency cooling water tower, preventing it from being released into the flare along with the vent gases
