May I ask, for centrifugal compressors, should the inlet valve be fully open before startup, or at 20% open? Why?
For Siemens centrifuges, the IGV opening degree is usually between 10% and 15% before startup :)
For turbine-driven systems, full open is sufficient; for motor-driven systems, an opening degree of 10-20% is fine!
I guess you’re referring to the guide vanes. This is required by the manufacturing process. Normal centrifuges have two-way valves at the inlet and outlet; guide vanes are installed only when it’s necessary to adjust the air flow, depending on the specific requirements of the process :)
For the two compressors encountered, the inlet valves were at around 10% open during startup, while the anti-surge valves were fully open
Here, we usually use motor-driven inlet valves with an opening degree of 15%, so as to prevent the motor’s starting current from causing overload.
Personally, it seems to be aimed at preventing excessive starting current; so simply reducing it should suffice. Perhaps it should also be determined based on different operating conditions

Turn it on to 10%–20% before starting, to prevent electrical overload. It is not certain whether it will be turned on depending on the situation during normal operation.
