Today I had a disagreement with someone; there was a leakage at the filling area. After removing it, I used red lead powder as filler – three sections, with two corners of each section being red while the middle part was black. I said that the middle part hadn’t come into contact with the red lead powder, while he said that the middle part was higher and thus those two corners didn’t make contact. Should the contact point be black or red?
He asked if it could be completely red after you shave it I think it’s impossible to make it completely red; after grinding, should it be completely black or completely red?
I don’t understand this. But there’s no need to argue; arguing brings no benefits to oneself. If you really want to find out the answer, do it again.
Scrape back and forth; where contact occurs, the red lead is gone, while where there is no contact, the red lead remains.

I brushed it for a little over a day yesterday; all five sealing rings had a slight black spot in the middle, with most of them turning red. He came over around 3 p.m. and said it wasn’t working – the more I brushed it, the worse it got. I asked him to try shaving off the old part; again, there were three red dots along with a large area of black in the middle. He shaved back and forth six or seven times, but each time only those three red dots remained. I didn’t bring my phone yesterday; I’ll take some photos today
The first one was scratched by me; I scratched the areas that were red and thin. The photo below shows an old seal – it already had those three red spots from the start. I said those red areas represented high points, while he said they were low points. He scratched it 5 or 6 times, but the contact points remained the same
The red dot indicates the contact support point. Don’t apply too much red lead powder. A coating thickness of 0.1–0.2 mm is ideal. The display is clearly accurate.

Judging from your photos, it seems that there is no red lead present; for such sealing rings, we simply install them directly
There’s a leak; I used a feeler gauge to check it, and 0.05 can pass through the black area in the middle, but 0.02 can’t even get through the red areas at the edges
It mainly depends on where you apply the red lead powder. If it’s applied to the piston rod, and the filler is placed on top of it, then red on the filler indicates a high point, while black indicates a low point. Red lead powder is applied to the filler, placed on the piston rod and then removed; red indicates a low point, while black indicates a high point
